Keepers of the Bloom
"This painting was a dance between memory and imagination. I wanted to create something lush and full of life — where lilies bloom boldly, and even “Missy and Scrapper” the sculptures stands guard with quiet presence. Keepers of the Bloom is a celebration of stillness, guardianship, and the cycles of nature."
🎨 Process & Composition:
This piece is a large 122x91cm. (3x4ft) oil painting, built up in layers. I worked with strong curves to lead the viewer through the canvas — from the sweeping red drapery to the upright lilies and down to the garden dog statue. The light was key: cool magenta accents on warm red fabric, soft shadows cast by the flowers, and a balance between structure and softness.
🌿 Inspiration:
Part of my ongoing Bloom Series, , this work explores themes of devotion, quiet companionship, and the dignity of objects that hold stories. The sculptured ceramic dogs were a gift for my husband.
